Last week, during my trip to Salt Lake City, the average temp was nine degrees! I returned home Saturday to be welcomed by another winter storm. It always seems this time of year – when the temperature drops to the coldest – that our family begins to get a bit stir crazy indoors. To ward off the winter blues, and to create a fun and pretty project together, try building a kid indoor fort.
It is a sweet place for the kids to read at during the day, and with the addition of faux fire candlelight, a lovely place to snuggle up in at night.
Did you ever make indoor forts as a child? We often would, and usually, they consisted of nothing more than two chairs pulled together and a blanket was thrown over them. It was so satisfying to pack our little backpacks and drag our sleeping bags out of storage to camp indoors.
Why not revive that tradition by building a little bit more stable indoor fort?
So, let me tell you how to make these kids indoor forts install two eye hooks on the ceiling and tie a piece of rope tied between them. Layer and throw sheets over the rope to create the loose fort structure. For decorating the indoor fort, cut out stars and string them up along with some twinkle lights inside for when nighttime comes. Line up blocks, or stones and stack firewood for an unlit indoor campfire. Include a couple battery operated candles around the fire for a romantic evening at home.
I also love building outdoor forts and celebrating Valentine’s day with camping date nights at home.

Tina is amazing! love how it turned out!!!!
Why, oh, why did I ever stop building indoor forts?! So magical!! I need to recreate this!
I hope to continue this when I have my own children! I did it as a kid, made them out of anything and my siblings and I loved nothing more! haha x

I love these beautiful ideas! My bf & I just watched Moonrise Kingdom last night and we want to turn our little attic room into a “tent.” Your version is so cozy and beautiful! I will definitely be taking cue from your inspiration!
