    a bouquet of plaster

02.02.12 Posted in decor, diy, flowers, parties, Valetines, wedding by Victoria

I purchased a small box of plaster last week and went to work dipping a sampling of bright fuax flowers. Mixing + dipping my varieties took about ten minutes and then I hung them upside down for a day to dry. The flowers have become the center of our Valentine’s Day decor. This pink, single stem came out as my favorite! What a perfectly fun (and unique) bouquet they would make wrapped in brown craft paper.

    wintry indoor picnic

02.01.12 Posted in adult parties, design, editorial shoots, events, labels & prints, Styled. feature, winter parties by Victoria

Warm weather is still a ways off, but the winter chill will not keep us from having a picnic. We just need to find shelter first!

To set the mood we designed a plaid patterned invitation printed on brown craft paper (see above!) download the invitations by clicking here. We also designed perfect tags for serving warm tomato soup or any other winter delight! Download the tag labels by clicking here.

For dessert, we roasted marshmallows over sterno flames, and made s’mores with homemade graham crackers. Guests had the option to layer dark chocolate, peanut butter cups, and strawberries on their s’mores. Everyone had a fun time staying cozy by the craft paper “fire” and embracing Febuary’s darkest days of Winter.

With our plaid invitations, corrdinating tags and cozy winter menu your guests will be singing Kumbaya around the fire in no time.

    minature cakes and assembly

02.01.12 Posted in diy, food, parties, showers, Styled. feature by Victoria

Gold is the new black, and mini is the new cupcake! Served on a festive coaster this is a decadent cake to call your own. Dressed to the nines and topped with a shear mini lime green pom-pom. Make the pom-poms by holding two fingers together. Wrap the tulle around five times and cut. Carefully remove tulle from fingers maintaining the shape. Tightly tie the twine around the middle. Snip each end of the tulle. Cutting in a circular manner, carefully shape to form a pom-pom. Insert toothpick in the center. Pop the champagne already. It’s time to celebrate!

To see the complete recipe view this cake DIY in Styled. magazine issue four. Here are the assembly instructions for a serving of baked and cooled cakes…

If necessary, level the cakes. Using a 2 1/4″ biscuit cutter, cut out 20 circles, 10 from each cake. Then place 10 of the cake rounds on an inverted baking sheet. Add a thin-medium layer of icing to the top of each cake, spreading just to the edge. Place the second layer of cake on top. Dirty ice each cake by applying a very thin layer of icing to seal in the crumbs. Place in the refrigerator until cold, at least 30 minutes. Ice each cake by applying a medium amount of icing. Smooth with an offset spatula. Return to refrigerator for 4 hrs or overnight.
In a small flat baking dish, pour in a handful of the gold pearlized sugar. Roll each cake in the sugar until well coated. Place each cake on a coaster. Refrigerate until serving. Place a pom-pom in the center of each individual cake and serve at room temperature. Let the celebration begin!

    graphic map details

02.01.12 Posted in decor, diy, Mother's day, seating cards, Styled. feature by Victoria

Maps are incredibly versatile, they provide easy ways to personalize your party decor. Decoupage votives or napkin wraps and put a meaningful map location at each place setting. Guests will enjoy trying to figure out which place is theirs!

Maps are also great for creating drink service trays. Purchase a wooden tray from the craft store. Spray with two coats of spray primer. Let thoroughly dry. Spray with 2-3 light coats of gloss spray paint. After final coat, let dry for at least 24 hours.  Line tray with chosen map. Decoupage map to bottom of tray or have glass cut to fit. Change up the maps each season depending on where your travel fantasies lead.

    veneer wooden chain

02.01.12 Posted in decor, diy, parties, Styled. feature, winter by Victoria

I love the look of party decor made from natural materials. These wood chains are easy to make and compliment any color palette you might choose! To make the chains, cut veneer edging into uniform strips.  You can play around  with different sizes, but I would stay between 6 and 10 inches long. Dab Gorilla glue on one end of a strip. Attach dry end of strip to your glued end to form a ring.  Clip a clothes pin over the end to hold in place. Repeat process, linking each new ring to the previous (like a paper chain). Let wood chain dry for at least an hour (check the back of your glue bottle for specifics). Remove clothespins and hang wood chain as desired.

    wooden and gold candles

02.01.12 Posted in decor, diy, parties, Styled. feature, Valetines, wedding, winter by Victoria

I love the graphic touch these candle bring into a room. They are easy to make and will quickly help not just the warmth, but also the romance in your home. A perfect use for old candles you might have stored away! Don’t you think a package of four small ones would make the perfect present for a good friend?!?

To make the gold graphic candles, measure the diameter and height of any candle you own or purchase. Add 1” to the diameter. Cut a piece of wood veneer to fit the dimensions. Adhere the gold paper to one side of the mounting film. On the back of the mounting film, sketch out your design. Do something fun! Here, I drew some freehand stripes. Cut out the shapes you drew. Arrange them on the wood veneer piece you cut out. Pull off the back of the mounting film and stick down. Overlap the two ends of the wood veneer by ¾”, glue together with tacky glue.
