    minature cakes and assembly

02.01.12 Posted in diy, food, parties, showers, Styled. feature by Victoria

Gold is the new black, and mini is the new cupcake! Served on a festive coaster this is a decadent cake to call your own. Dressed to the nines and topped with a shear mini lime green pom-pom. Make the pom-poms by holding two fingers together. Wrap the tulle around five times and cut. Carefully remove tulle from fingers maintaining the shape. Tightly tie the twine around the middle. Snip each end of the tulle. Cutting in a circular manner, carefully shape to form a pom-pom. Insert toothpick in the center. Pop the champagne already. It’s time to celebrate!

To see the complete recipe view this cake DIY in Styled. magazine issue four. Here are the assembly instructions for a serving of baked and cooled cakes…

If necessary, level the cakes. Using a 2 1/4″ biscuit cutter, cut out 20 circles, 10 from each cake. Then place 10 of the cake rounds on an inverted baking sheet. Add a thin-medium layer of icing to the top of each cake, spreading just to the edge. Place the second layer of cake on top. Dirty ice each cake by applying a very thin layer of icing to seal in the crumbs. Place in the refrigerator until cold, at least 30 minutes. Ice each cake by applying a medium amount of icing. Smooth with an offset spatula. Return to refrigerator for 4 hrs or overnight.
In a small flat baking dish, pour in a handful of the gold pearlized sugar. Roll each cake in the sugar until well coated. Place each cake on a coaster. Refrigerate until serving. Place a pom-pom in the center of each individual cake and serve at room temperature. Let the celebration begin!

    heart milk cubes

01.31.12 Posted in children, diy, drinks, food, Valetines, winter by Victoria

With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, I am excited to share a couple projects to celebrate the holiday with subtly and style. These milk heart cubes are a sweet surprise for your man’s morning coffee or a tall glass of milk. As they melt, the milk turns pink (the twins were in love!).

To make the milk cubes, combine milk and a few drops of red food coloring together in a small bowl. Fill an ice cube tray, my heart one is from Ikea and freeze overnight. So easy, right!?!

PS. A few other Valentine favorites you might have missed… individual mini fondue, sweet love brownies, stitched hearts (these would make adorable Valentines), crocheted heart cake toppers and one of my first DIY blog posts painted love bottles.

    bright fortune cookie favors

01.26.12 Posted in brightness, favors, food, parties, showers, wedding by Victoria

I found the brightest fortune cookies last month at my local World Market and grabbed a bag of them immediately knowing they would be useful for a party. Using tweezers I took out the sayings that came inside of each cookie and replaced them with my own hand written, “thanks!” creating this super easy, bright and festive idea for wedding and party favors. See the complete tutorial and a link to buy bright fortune cookies online over at Project Wedding.

    glitter stamped fruit

01.17.12 Posted in decor, diy, favors, food, parties, showers, Valetines, wedding, winter by Victoria

Baking glitter and a new set of stamps is all you need to produce a party look that will brighten up the winter. Stamp pears, apples and other fleshy fruit with glitter for an instant glam up. Place the fruit in a group to create a centerpiece or on individual plates for a dinner party setting.

Stamped with love they are perfect for Valentines Day. Stamp with the words party, joy, or happy for a birthday. Stamp with the word eat for a whimsical dinner party appetizer addition. The fruits are not only pretty but also edible! See the complete tutorial at Project Wedding.

    table top grill

01.16.12 Posted in decor, food, parties, showers, wedding, winter by Victoria

Making miniature table-top grills is a really fun way to serve small foods at your next party. I designed these with simple materials you can find at a craft store and they come together in about 15 minutes. Once assembled set them up on your table between every 2-3 seats and serve small shish-kabobs, meat or use them as a table top marshmallow roast for dessert.

    applewood cake stands

01.16.12 Posted in Christmas, decor, diy, food, New Years, parties, showers, Styled. feature, winter by Victoria

Handcrafted applewood cake plates are the perfect addition for wintry desserts. They easy to make and use only three supplies: applewood, a pretty thrifted plate, and Gorilla glue. The wooden stands will look as if they are an effortless extension of the greenery. Perfectly fit for this time of year!

Start with a piece of wood that has been leveled (using a saw or sander) on each end.  Spread a moderate amount of Gorilla glue over one end, carefully center your plate on top, and place a stack of books on top to allow the glue to thoroughly dry.  Use as the focal point on your dessert table, styling with snowy, monochromatic accents and woodland greenery.
