recreate | handkerchief invitations

07.07.11 Posted in diy, ideas, labels & prints, showers, wedding by Victoria

These handkerchief invitations designed by Kelli Anderson are my new absolute favorite! For a wedding they are so special. They would also be a unique addition for a milestone birthday, anniversary party, or baby shower.

I love the idea of having a map printed on them, it would also be sweet to track the journey of a couples life or a parents accomplishments. Don’t you think a tongue and cheek version would be fun for a baby shower, tracking the (oh so fabulous) weekly developments of a pregnancy? Any way you make them I really adore the sweet sentiment they bring.

An easy DIY way to recreate a version of these invitations would be to stamp blank handkerchiefs with words using a tube of fabric paint, or you could transfer images onto the squares of fabric via a printer instructions here. If you really want to make the invitations look professional, having the images sent in and then printed would be a nice touch see here.

recreate | berry box flowers

06.27.11 Posted in decor, diy, flowers, ideas, parties, showers, summer by Victoria

Summertime weekends scream farmers markets, fresh bright flowers and scrumptious berries to me. The perfect trio for this sweet and low summer table centerpiece.

To recreate this look: Use an emptied berry box, string thread through the sides and crisscross over the top to make a grid for your flowers to rest within. Use a coordinated bunch of flowers and cut the stems down to leave about 2 inches of steam on each bloom. Place the flowers individually within your grid to create a lush and bright summertime berry box bouquet.

three palette cake stand

06.22.11 Posted in decor, diy, ideas, parties, party, summer by Victoria

In an effort to reduce and reuse before we moved, I made this three tiered wooden stand for our moving party to hold the cake and treats. It was an easy project and looked bright and pretty. I would love to make a whole slew of them in different sizes for an entire dessert bar one day.

To recreate the cake stand, use three old pieces of scrap wood and a pack of four small hardware wheels (mine were $3 a pack). Spray paint each of your boards to coordinate with your event and let dry overnight. Once dry, stack in order. Then turn the pallet stack over to screw in four wheels for stability and ease of movement. Use a few small dabs of wood glue on the inside of each piece to secure the pallets together. Let dry with a couple heavy books on top to set the stand.

reason to celebrate | a beautiful mess

06.17.11 Posted in decor, design, diy, ideas, parties, reasons, wedding by Victoria

Elsie Larson is one of my favorite bloggers. Her DIY style is always so sweet and her recent wedding completely lives up. Did you see it on Style Me Pretty yesterday? I spotted this gorgeous black and white printed love bunting in her photos and have not been able to get it out of my mind. What an easy idea that looks perfectly playful. The bunting manages to be gorgeous yet not at all stuffy.

Recreate the look by cutting down foam board (the thickness will allow it to hang straight, unlike paper) and grabbing a big fat black marker. Draw shapes, words, and designs- imperfections included. I can envision a room full of these for our next birthday party (Love!).

wrap it up | with streamers

06.07.11 Posted in design, ideas, summer, wrapping by Victoria

I included this brilliant project as one of the 100 reasons to celebrate. I love it so much, I wanted to be sure you didn’t miss it. Wrapping presents in streamers this summer is pretty and incredibly easy.

To recreate; run a length of streamer around your package and tie off with two bows on top. I especially love its look over plain craft paper with a simple note written directly onto the paper.

waterproof drink labels

06.03.11 Posted in design, drinks, ideas, labels & prints, showers, summer by Victoria

Since many of the iced tea combinations looked similar I needed to label each bottle. While searching for something different than flags for this project, I stumbled upon an extra piece of laminated paper lying around. A bright (cartoonist) light went off in my head. Waterproof labels… of course!

Making your own waterproof labels is quite simple. Print out label text and take it to the closest print shop to have it laminated (mine cost a dollar a page). Cut the labels down to size. Then roll up and slide them into bottles, clear glass cups, or pitchers. They are my new favorite for summer.

reason to celebrate | poof and pom

05.16.11 Posted in design, ideas, reasons by Victoria

No one does fabric poms quite like Ban.do. This pretty pink bunch was designed for their recent Ban.Blow.Bash party, I’m in love! The beautiful spring line leaves me wishing for a jar full of my own delicate pink poms. So, I found an easy tutorial tutorial to make a huge poofy pile of them.

stripe your wrap

04.25.11 Posted in design, ideas, reasons by Victoria

I am prepping for a styling project in May involving a whole bunch of stripes, which has (of course) lead to a slight obsession with them. I just love this bright spring striped wrapping, done by Riffe Raff. You could make it yourself with a brown bag and a bit of paint.
