    a birthday unlist

04.19.11 Posted in adult parties, birthdays, brightness, design, editorial shoots, events, Favorite, summer parties by Victoria

What do you want to do before turning thirty? Did you have a big list or a simple one? After seeing many friends make their 30 by 30 or life lists, I was a bit overwhelmed with the prospect. Giving myself more boxes to check just isn’t my thing these days, instead we made an “unlist”.

Matt and I jotted down a list of the things we’ve learned so far. A list of funny, wise, honest, and helpful lessons that have compiled over the past thirty years.

We wrote them on scraps of fabric and are planning to add to them each year in hopes that one day we will be able to pass down the wisdom of our good choices and our faulty ones. “Steak should only be turned once” a very helpful lesson learned. “Dance in the rain, it’s okay to get wet” a fun mantra we have adapted to our life. “Always check the oil in your car” a much more costly lesson.

As a part of our thirtieth birthday celebration, we tied all these lessons together onto a bunch of balloons, grabbed the cake we would later blow out and celebrated all that it means to have lived, learned and enjoyed the many boxes already checked throughout our quickly fleeting twenties.

    lemonade cake stand

04.12.11 Posted in design, events, Favorite, favors, food, labels & prints, parties, showers, spring parties, summer, summer parties by Victoria

A piece from the Styled. lemonade stand that I love but have yet to share; lavender lemonade cakes baked in lemons! They were a festive addition to the stand and would make the perfect sweet note for an afternoon brunch or shower.

Download the lemon favor, “open for cake” labels by clicking here.

To make the cakes; cut one lemon in half. Hollow out both sides and fill the lemon with a lavender lemon cake recipe, here is the one I used (minus the icing). Tie the lemon closed with a length of twine. Place the tied, batter filled lemon in tin foil and bake. Set the oven to double the normal cooking time and reduce the temperature of your recipe by 50 degrees for a perfect cook.

Once the cakes are done, place a few pretty sprigs inside the twine, label, and enjoy opening up the scrumptious treats.

    watercolored vases

02.23.11 Posted in decor, diy, Easter, Favorite, showers, spring, wedding by Victoria

My latest DIY for Project Wedding is bright and cheerful, a nice break from the bleak winter weather this last week. Making your own watercolored vases is an affordable option for a spring wedding or party. To make them, you can use any type of plain glass (thrifted or saved from recent packaging will save you money). Combine paint with water and swirl the vase around in the mixture, it creates a very pretty looking watercolor effect. Find the exact instructions and measurements here.

I am absolutely in love with the semi transparent texture and jagged edges this painting technique leaves behind. A few of the vases are currently residing on my kitchen counter filled with french tulips. Happy almost spring!

    Panini’s on a barstool

07.19.10 Posted in 30x30, diy, Favorite, food, parties, showers, spring by Victoria

I styled a sweet bridal shower earlier this month and for brunch we decided to make paninis! I set out fresh sourdough bread, lots of veggies & a sampling of cheeses. We cooked each on an old George Foreman grill. They made for perfectly easy + very lovely summer afternoon party food!

The rest of the shower design can be found here, including printable labels and that bright yarn backdrop featured today on Style Me Pretty!

PS. Yarn flower tutorial for the shower can be found here.
