Vanilla Cinnamon Sugar Ice Cream Base

  1. This recipe is for a countertop, freezer bowl style ice cream maker. In a jar with a lid, add all ingredients and stir.

  2. Put the lid on your jar and place in the fridge overnight.

  3. This is the time to make sure your ice cream freezer bowl has been put in the freezer, so it’s ready to go the next day.
  4. When your ice cream base and bowl are ready, follow your manufacturer's directions and get to churning.
  5. Add in 1 cup of cinnamon chips, I absolutely love these and they give you a delicious crunchy bit of that churro flavor.

Now let’s make this ice cream churroey, ha ha!!

You can definitely make churros to add to your ice cream mix, however, they tend to not hold their crispy texture when added to ice cream. But, you can always make some as a side to your churro ice cream, using this pate a choux recipe from our churro donut sandwiches. It’s like serving ice cream with apple pie, but way better!

When you’re ice cream is still churning, but close to finishing is when it will be time to add your cinnamon mix-in of choice.

Follow the recipe card above for our favorite way by adding 1 cup of cinnamon chips, these are my favorite ones. I absolutely love these and they give you a delicious crunchy bit of that churro flavor.

You can also add a toasted cinnamon cereal, like Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Place 1 to 1 ½ cups of cereal on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and toast in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 5 to 8 minutes or until cereal, I know this sounds silly, is toasted and crunchier, lol. Almost like you left it out, but it won’t have the stale cereal taste. Allow to cool and mix in to your ice cream.

Churro Ice Cream PartyFinally, the easiest way to get that churro flavor into your ice cream is topping it with fresh cinnamon and a coarse sanding sugar. Since the ice cream already has a yummy cinnamon vanilla flavor, the cinnamon sugar topping will add the crunchy texture of a churro!!!

I LOVE how there are three different ways to easily make this delicious treat. You can pick one or try all three!!! To bring your churro ice cream to the next level, make a side of churros for a churro ice cream sundae. Bring on the dulce de leche and whipped cream and it’s an ice cream fiesta of your dreams.

PS. This would be a great addition to our Cinco De mayo menu for next year.
