dixie cup cake

Simple cakes that can be made in small paper cups! What a perfect idea for a mid week dessert, or party passing alternative. I tried the concept out this week and knew I immediately needed to share. Perhaps to replace the food on a stick phenomenon, we can start a new trend… food in a cup!

  1. Is there a certain recipe to use to make these cakes in cups? Thinking this would be a good thing to use at an upcoming event. Thanks for your help.

    • I have made them with everything from a simple box to a special chocolate fudge cake recipe! The only thing to look out for is that the timing can vary when baking them, just be sure to check them cooking often. If you follow the link in the post Vinille shares a gluten free recipe she used.

  2. Ahh! It’s really cute! I love the idea for passing food at parties.

But the “food in a cup” idea reminds me of the overly convenience-filled world of WALL-E, where the people cruising in space receive their “sept-u-a-centennial cupcake in a cup” on their no-walking-required hover cars. Makes me wince a bit!

  3. I love the idea of the small size especially for the kids. I was a little concerned about the cups burning and baking with the wax lining (petroleum byproduct – I know, over-the-top naturalist) but I found silicone mini cups on Amazon that worked great! Here’s the link if anyone else was thinking the same things: http://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Bathroom-Reusable-Eco-Friendly-Dishwasher/dp/B016JT3M6Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455307591&sr=8-1&keywords=siliconies+mini+cups
