    Homemade, tooth fairy monster pillow

11.02.09 Posted in Momhood by Victoria

This project developed as many do in my life from eying something I would like to own and not wanting to spend the cash to purchase it. I had an aching this weekend to celebrate the new pearly whites that both my babies are strutting around with.

I came across these adorable tooth monster pillows. How cute are they??? I wanted to buy them to celebrate the fact that we finally, and with only a few days of fuss HAVE TEETH! Since it was Halloween weekend the monster aspect just sent me over the top. However, we have no budget line for super-cute-tooth-monster-pillows.

Here is my version, total project cost- 96 cents.

I started out with the very simple supplies- 2 sheets of felt in your desired color, 1 sheet in white for the eyes and 1 sheet in black (I actually used 2 black buttons that I had on hand but be careful not to stick a pillow in baby’s crib with buttons on). You will also need black thread and a sewing needle.

The first step is to cut everything out. I just free handed mine, since I loved the made-at-home quality of these it turned out perfect. Draw on one piece of felt, then pin and cut so that both your pieces will match.

I did all my sewing by hand because I was too lazy to pull out the machine and I love the made-at-home look, it really enhances the pillow’s adorableness. A machine set on zig-zag would give you a pretty line as well. Sew the eyes on first by simply pinning the fabric and stitching around the circle. I made my eyes look a bit disheveled and crazy since it is a monster after all.

Then you simply pin the pieces together and sew around the sides leaving the bottom open to stuff. Once it is ready- stuff the pillow and sew up the bottom side.

What you end up with is a fun way to celebrate the coming or leaving of teeth.

Just as a side note: We don’t tend to encourage lying to our kids about made up fictitious characters around here- read up on it Wednesday when I share my thoughts with you on Santa. However, even if these pillows are not used by a floating fairy they are super cute and a fun way to teach even young ones about the teeth growing inside their mouths!

These are adorable! Since we don’t have any babies around the house, I’ll need to come up with some way to adapt these for our grown ups only household. Too cute.

Okay, so I made some! I made little hearts to spot our living room couch. They turned out wonderfully.
