flower-shoes-8May was a crazy month around here. We adhere to the idea that our kids have a limited (18!) summers with us at home, so it’s a great focus to make the most of them. When you think about it, it is probably more like 15, because I can already tell they’re not planning to lay around the pool with mom as teenagers. :) So I always slow down and savor our summers a little more.

And if you own a business you know what it’s like to take time off… crazy before and crazy after. So May was a happy, floral filled blur of everything we love about summer. I can’t wait to start rolling out the content we’ve shot recently, it has me all gushy over the season ahead!

pinkiesIn May I snuck away for a quick girls weekend in Carmel, CA which was exactly what I needed. A BFF, wine tasting and a few lazy days by the coast area was a great recharge for me. We stayed at the Hofas House Hotel, which had the most beautiful pink roses blooming everywhere! It is one of my favorite hotels in the area and a great jumping off place to explore the entire region. We traveled a little south to the tip of BIg Sur and spent a day thrifting up in Monterey, where I also had the best calamari of my life! It is fresh right off the coast.

I’ve basically decided that Carmel By The Sea is my favorite California town because of it’s laid back and adorably European vibe. It’s a great location to experience the Northern California coastline without the crazy of a big city blaring in my ears.

At home we got the deck done this month which is my new favorite spot in the entire world! I’ve been sitting out there everyday and will be sharing the super easy transformation we made later this month.

We also had an arborist come out to teach me all the things about trees and we have started work on reviving our large and neglected property – in the process I found out we have about 25 peony bushes out back! They didn’t bloom this year because they are so unhealthy, but with a little love and a lot of water – my favorite flower will be filling our yard next year. Such a gift! We also started planning for other fun outside elements like our treehouse and working on a plan to sink the trampoline into the ground. Has anyone else ever attempted that? I’d love to hear any tips and tricks on the process. I think we are going to end up digging the hole with a rented bobcat ourselves. Eeeek!

I also read Big Little Lies and then promptly binged the entire HBO series. It was a perfect read for summer, if you’re looking.

I could write a double post for May since it felt like so much happened this month, I loved walking through our Healthy Living Series with so many of you and I received a promotion with Arbonne that I’ll be sharing more about this summer. Matt and I also celebrated our 14 year anniversary, we shared a look into the whiskey club that Matt runs, oh… and Mother’s Day happened. May was a month filled with so many great moments. Cheers to a new month filled with summer fun ahead.
