For parties? Yes, of course!!! And also… maybe just for my desk. We all need a little magical power around, especially when magic looks this pretty. ;)

DIY mini Unicorn pinatas!

To make the miniature unicorn pinatas you will need a mini pinata (ours are from Target), white tissue paper, a variety of pastel tissue paper, white Elmer’s glue, scissors (Martha Stewart fringe scissors work great for making fringe), white cardstock, gold glitter, and black cardstock.

Steps to create a DIY unicorn pinatas

How to create a unicorn pinata

These adorable miniature unicorn pinatas are easy to make and only take a few simple steps. Plus you can customize them to match your inner magic!

Here’s how to recreate this look:
1. First, you will need to strip the piñata of its original tissue paper.
2. Then cut long strips of folded in half tissue paper that are about 2 inches wide and fringe.
3. Starting at the bottom of the piñata, start layering the fringed strips of tissue paper one on top of each other, securing with glue.
4. Once the piñata is covered, add a unicorn tail by cutting long strips of different colored tissue paper and gluing them into the candy opening of the piñata. Take the same strips of pastel colored tissue paper and make the unicorn’s mane by gluing strips to the piñata “neck” one by one.

Don’t forget the horn! The sparkly unicorn horn was made simply by forming a cone from white cardstock and glittering it. Replace the eyes from your original piñata or cut the unicorns eye from black cardstock and glue them on. And with that, you have created your very own magical beast!

Let us know in the comments what your favorite unicorn projects is! I have to admit these pint-sized magical creatures sure do make me smile!

  1. I don’t even know where to look because this is so freaking cute it’s hurting my eyes. I’m right on the edge of considering hosting a birthday party for my puppy turning one just so she can have a unicorn piñata!

    • Anon, It totally does! This post is from last fall (2015). I hate that they so often steal other bloggers content and run it as their own. But I’m just going to keep creating and keep celebrating! Thanks.

  2. This is so adorable…i can’t resist it and just in time for my daughter’s unicorn themed Bday. So I am definitely making these — as the party favors for the other kids. Thank you for such detailed instructions!
