Scallop Party Garland

I’m a sucker for little party details, they can really make any day feel special. But sometimes there’s no escaping the need to go big. Like fill a whole wall, deck out an entire room with bright festive fun. BIG! This scallop party garland is a great asset in these moments. It’s so simple, anyone can make it, and it literally transforms a blank space to a whimsical party spot in moments.

To make the scallop party garland all you’ll need is 12×12 pieces of scrapbook paper, scissors and glue dots. Each strand of the garland uses one piece of scrapbook paper – so you can brighten up an entire room on a shoe-string budget!

Start by cutting straight lines in the paper about every 2 inches 90% across the paper. You’ll need to leave the last 10% uncut for the garland to stay connected. Once all 6 cuts are made, flip the paper over and cut again every 2 inches but in-between the first cuts, also going 90% through the paper. The result will be a criss-cross of cuts attached by just the 10% on each end. That’s all it takes – straight cuts on simple paper! So simple.

Next hang the garland using glue dots at each connection point across the wall. You can measure out for perfect curves or just put it up for a more whimsical Dr. Seuss-ish look – my personal choice. Throw in a few colorful lanterns, maybe a fringe cake, and have yourself a party!

  1. Wow, this is so simple and great! You can tell when an idea is great – when it creates more great ideas. While I was reading through the article I thoughthat instead of using scrapbook paper I can use pages of old magazine (or the covers, since they are harder). The end result would be even more colourful.
