    whoopie pie favors

09.26.11 Posted in diy, favors, food, showers, wedding by Victoria

I made these whoopie pies last year for Christmas and thought they would make adorable thank you favors. The whoopie pies taste amazing and are easy to make with marshmallow fluff and baking glitter. The ingredients look festive packaged together with ribbon in a pretty box. They would be a sweet addition to a party or wedding. See the full tutorial with instructional download over at Project Wedding.

served celebrations | Oreo mousse cups

08.16.11 Posted in food, parties, summer by Victoria

While we generally like to do things from scratch, let’s face it: sometimes you just don’t have the time before your guests arrive.  We “cheat” on these Oreo mousse cups by using a packaged mousse mix…but we’ve never had any complaints. In fact, they’re often the first thing to disappear!

To make your own “cheater” mousse cups:

Finely crush one package of double stuffed Oreos using a food processor (or crush with a rolling pin). Melt one stick of butter butter and add to the Oreo crumbs, mixing well. Press the Oreo mixture into the cups of a muffin tin.  Be sure that the bottom of each cup is covered about a 1/4 inch thick, and press the crust up the sides to create a small cookie bowl.  Refrigerate. Prepare one box of mousse according to the instructions on the box (our favorite dark chocolate mousse comes from World Market). When the mousse is ready, take the crusts out of the fridge. Use a table knife to ease each crust out of the tin and fill the Oreo cups with the mousse (you can use a spoon, or pipe it in). Garnish with berries and refrigerate until ready to serve

reason to celebrate | creme brulee

04.18.11 Posted in design, reasons by Victoria

Happy Monday! I had a fun weekend in San Fransisco with friends. While frolicking around the city we stopped by to see The Creme Brulee Man and had the most heavenly treat. He runs a pop up dessert shop and announces on twitter each day where he will be serving at. So fun! Plus he is available for hire in the bay area as a fresh option for wedding/party desserts this spring.

    a unicorn party

02.22.11 Posted in birthdays, design, events, kid parties, party, spring parties by Victoria

The magical, make believe world of child’s mind can lend itself to the most enchanting of parties. Unicorns prancing around a living room floor, for example, transport us back to the days of dress up, knights and the whimsical world of a princess.

Carly, photographer extraordinaire, who you see around here often, has a baby girl who just turned one. To celebrate she threw a unicorn and tutu party, with loads of amazing details. It was a fabulously fun party to conceptualize with Carly. Sadly, the day of, a bridge closure prevented me from attending, but she did an amazing job styling and photographing it to share with you!

I lieu of birthday hats paper unicorn cones were made, the children adored a chance to pretend as they romped about the room wearing them. We found the perfect metallic unicorn balloon, which floated along with pretty paper poms above the tables.

The dessert table featured a rainbow cake made by Nichole, designed specifically in the pretty color palette. Taffy, rock candy and other goodies were offered to keep things sweet.

Ice cream cones dipped in white chocolate and made to look like horns were the perfect favors for guests. Wrapped up with gold they became a sweet treat to take home.

Thank for for sharing these beautiful party photos Carly!

    Brownies for dessert

02.17.11 Posted in food, labels & prints, Valetines, wedding, winter by Victoria

It is hard not to love a good dessert bar, especially when brownies are involved! Personalize yours by printing custom liners on parchment paper. I used this idea last year to make muffin wrappers for a morning brunch. To print your own: first cut the parchment roll to size, then run it through an inkjet printer (don’t use laser, trust me, you’ll burn the paper!).

I designed these sweet love ones for Project Wedding, you can download them here. I was really happy with the imperfect design texture they ended up with, the edge makes them extra sweet!

    mirror backed dessert

02.02.11 Posted in birthdays, design, Events, kid parties by Victoria

A two year old birthday would surely not be complete without the addition of a few chosen sweets! The Storybook dessert bar I styled flowed right into the rest of the space, backed by a large horizontal mirror to show off the fabric ruffled streamers draping across the ceiling. Mirrors are a classic interior design trick, they can also be the perfect fix for a table backdrop when there is a pretty little something to be shown across the room.

Our sweets were inspired by the two year old palette and included chocolate raspberry pudding, brownies, cake and individual truffle boxes. Two simple matching cakes were made special with handcrafted birthday candles, perfect for a bit of party sparkle. The cakes were set out on stands I created from spray painted plastic dinnerware which turned out to be a festive and economical solution for pretty cake stands.

My favorite detail of the dessert table was the written fabric flag design. I cut up an old sheet, ironed and glued the sides behind and enlisted the help of a teacher friend to write in classic book phrases only adjusted to fit our day. They lent a good dose of texture to the table and incorporated our theme in a jovial way.

PS. We still had a whole bag of those white meringues left after the party, they are so pretty in photos but no one seems to like them- take note!
