    oversize wooden blocks

12.01.11 Posted in children, Christmas, diy, gift guide, gifts by Victoria

These over-sized blocks will bring a dose of brilliant fun for the kids this winter. I originally crafted them for the twins bedroom and they’ve received much playtime and love since then. Although the project looks huge it is actually very simple and would make a perfect statement under your tree or in the home of your favorite toddlers.

I started the project with a 4x4x10 foot piece of wood purchased from the hardware store for ten dollars. I had it cut right there in the store into different sized pieces, varying from 2 inches to 5 inches long. Once home I painted in the letters with stencil and acrylic paint. Then I attached simple frame hanging hardware to the back.

The blocks look awesome hanging on the bedroom wall and with the hardware attached they are very simple to  pull down for play time.

PS. After Christmas I am thinking of stenciling in Happy Birthday on a set and having an always available wooden party banner:)

    glittered box hats

07.13.11 Posted in children, diy, fashion, games & fun by Victoria

In place of paper pointy party hats these glittered box hats will make your birthday girl and her friends feel really special. I adore how they ended up with such a festive and boxed vintage feel.

Make your own glittered party hats using cardboard box frames found at local craft stores (I used oval but any shape would work). You could make the hats before a party to hand out or create a craft station for them to keep little hands busy.

First, punch small holes in each side of the box to thread your ribbon through, then cover the entire box with acrylic paint. While the paint is still wet tap out glitter covering the top of the hat. Let your hat dry and string the ribbon to tie. Enjoy the girlie giggles you will get as glitter is placed atop their little heads.

Thanks to my sweet little girl for modeling. Photography by Chelsea Robbins for a subtle revelry.

reason to celebrate | quirky kids

05.24.11 Posted in design, reasons by Victoria

One of my favorite paper sites 1973 has recently updated their line for spring. These quirky kid postcards are a couple of my favorites. They would make the sweetest birthday party invitations.

PS. 1973 owner Emma’s house is really gorgeous!

Carly and I have been working behind the scenes on a new design project, one that I am just really excited about. I still cannot share too much about it but here is a little sneak peak (love!).

    painted guestbook

05.16.11 Posted in children, design, games & fun, guest books, spring, wedding by Victoria

After the myriad of watercolor projects this spring, I’ve complied quite the paint collection. This bright and artistic (masterpiece) guest book is a fun solution and would be a fresh idea for your next celebration.

To recreate; find an old frame and fill it with an extra large sheet of artist paper. Leave guests instructions to write in their name + well wishes with a white crayon and leave the paints out with brushes and water. After the piece is dry, you will have a pretty log of who celebrated with you and a gorgeous dose of watercolor art.

I originally designed this with a wedding in mind, but wouldn’t it also be a fun way to end a kids party? Their little friends will love playing in the paints and your child will be left with a treasured remembrance of his special day.

PS. My favorite painted wedding mural ever.

    a sweet, little tea

05.02.11 Posted in design, events, holidays, kid parties, Mother's day, spring parties by Victoria

Being served by kids is a great Mother’s Day wish in many of our hearts. Here is a bit of inspiration for teaching the little ones how to celebrate (PS. pass this on to dad:).

Tea is an easy way to allow kids to help prepare a celebration for mom. Even a two year old is able to place a flower of tea into a cup of warmed water, and sprinkling sugar is certainly not a chore for them.

Use a single bunch of large blooms to decorate. Allow the kids to place them around as they see fit, pulling out vases and sweets to encourage the process. Watch with glee as they organize the cups. You may have a budding stylist on your hands! Use wrinkled linen, or the bed sheet for a relaxed time indoors and if you happen to have a tree house, trust me- it is an adorable location for an early morning tea.

Let’s be honest, when she is celebrating there is nothing that fills my heart more!

    recreate | cotton tails

04.25.11 Posted in children, diy, Easter, games & fun, spring by Victoria

Hoping you had a happy weekend, mine was filled with sugared high kids and lots of Easter joy. We attended a play-date hosted by Carly on Friday. She had each mom bring a special toy to fill up Easter baskets for all the kids, such an easy idea that I am totally stealing next year! Paige brought these sweet little homemade cotton tails that my bunnies just loved hopping around in.

To recreate; cut a small circle of felt and glue a handful of cotton balls into it. Glue a thin piece of rope underneath the cotton for tying. So sweet, and now you are already ahead for next years celebration:)

My little girl, photographed by Carly.

PS. We had another panini bar for brunch yesterday, which is now an official Hudgins Easter tradition. It was an easy and a joyful way to celebrate with a group of friends.

    blessings.
