recreate | cotton tails

04.25.11 Posted in children, diy, Easter, games & fun, spring by Victoria

Hoping you had a happy weekend, mine was filled with sugared high kids and lots of Easter joy. We attended a play-date hosted by Carly on Friday. She had each mom bring a special toy to fill up Easter baskets for all the kids, such an easy idea that I am totally stealing next year! Paige brought these sweet little homemade cotton tails that my bunnies just loved hopping around in.

To recreate; cut a small circle of felt and glue a handful of cotton balls into it. Glue a thin piece of rope underneath the cotton for tying. So sweet, and now you are already ahead for next years celebration:)

PS. We had another panini bar for brunch yesterday, which is now an official Hudgins Easter tradition. It was an easy and a joyful way to celebrate with a group of friends.

streamer egg hunt

04.13.11 Posted in children, design, Easter, games & fun, spring by Victoria

We hosted a mini Easter morning while the grandparents were in town this week, it was fabulously simple and relaxed. For the kids I designed a streamer egg hunt. Each hidden egg was attached to a streamer that stretched throughout our house. The kids started at the begining of the streamers and followed them one by one to find the hidden eggs.

A few days prior we tried out the egg hunt and Carly Taylor took these sweet photos of the concept with her daughter as our first guinea pig. The little kids enjoyed the streamers just as much as they enjoyed the hidden eggs and it made for quite the festive showing throughout our home!

paper fox and bunny

04.07.11 Posted in children, Easter, favors, games & fun, spring by Victoria

Easter is coming up quite quickly this year. We are having a mini spring celebration while the grandparents are in town this weekend and I’m super excited to see all the kids run around collecting eggs. These paper bunny/fox masks are so much fun; they will be perfect little springtime favors for tiny hands to play with.

To make the animal masks I cut out quite a few circles (using a circle cutter) and glued the pretty paper variations to the plastic mask form. The project was designed as my latest DIY for Just Mommies. The detailed instructions here, including how many circles to cut from which papers.

PS. If you’d prefer not to make them, cute paper masks for purchase!

jr. librarian party

03.24.11 Posted in birthdays, design, favors, kid parties, party by Victoria

I spotted this Jr. librarian party that Celeste threw for her daughter and it looks perfectly adorable. She describes the party as, “loads of nerdy fun!”. Each child received a freezer stenciled canvas library bag as a favor and they played great games like, walk around the room with a book on your head. I love finding fresh party concepts that aren’t too cheesy for older kids.

PS. If you’d like to freezer stencil your own tote favors, Liz has a great tutorial.

clover cootie catcher

03.09.11 Posted in children, diy, games & fun, spring, St. Patties by Victoria

I’m having a blast with my newest freelance job, creating kid-centric crafts for Just Mommies. This month, a cootie catcher perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.

It is a throw back to our own grammar school days, plus when done in green and with a little rounding of the corners you are left with a very lucky paper clover. Write in four special treats and enjoy celebrating the holiday in whichever way your luck may lead!

Photography by Carly Taylor for a subtle revelry.

PS. Last year, as one of my first projects shared online, I made shamrock cupcakes.

adorable birthday ritual

03.03.11 Posted in children, games & fun, ideas, party by Victoria

This creative birthday ritual pulls heavy on my mom heart strings, it is so sweet. Have your child stand in the same place every year, on the same day (their birthday!) and snap a quick photo. What a perfect way to mark milestones and build a keepsake to treasure.

fabric party streamers

02.24.11 Posted in children, decor, diy, parties, winter by Victoria

For the vintage storybook birthday we lined the ceiling and some of the walls with these pretty, ruffly fabric party streamers. They were an easy, but time intensive project that was worth every moment. Although paper would have been much easier, there is a warmth that the fabric gave to our party space. Plus, now that I’ve made them, they can easily be stored away and pulled out for other needed occasions!

To make the fabric party streamers you will need to cut pieces of fabric about four inches wide and two times the length you’d like to cover.

Grab your sewing machine, or enlist the help of an amazing mom (thanks mom!) to sew two lines right down the center of your streamers. Be sure to leave long thread ends on both sides for pulling. Begin slowly pulling the thread from one side of your streamer (only pull one piece of thread, either the top or the bottom). Get comfy with a movie and ruffle away, you will love the results! For more detailed ruffling instructions see Disney.

a unicorn party

02.22.11 Posted in birthdays, design, events, kid parties, party, spring parties by Victoria

The magical, make believe world of child’s mind can lend itself to the most enchanting of parties. Unicorns prancing around a living room floor, for example, transport us back to the days of dress up, knights and the whimsical world of a princess.

Carly, photographer extraordinaire, who you see around here often, has a baby girl who just turned one. To celebrate she threw a unicorn and tutu party, with loads of amazing details. It was a fabulously fun party to conceptualize with Carly. Sadly, the day of, a bridge closure prevented me from attending, but she did an amazing job styling and photographing it to share with you!

I lieu of birthday hats paper unicorn cones were made, the children adored a chance to pretend as they romped about the room wearing them. We found the perfect metallic unicorn balloon, which floated along with pretty paper poms above the tables.

The dessert table featured a rainbow cake made by Nichole, designed specifically in the pretty color palette. Taffy, rock candy and other goodies were offered to keep things sweet.

Ice cream cones dipped in white chocolate and made to look like horns were the perfect favors for guests. Wrapped up with gold they became a sweet treat to take home.

Thank for for sharing these beautiful party photos Carly!

recreate project | snowball watercolor

02.03.11 Posted in brightness, children, games & fun, ideas, winter by Victoria

I found this amazing project for those of you who will spend the weekend deep under snow banks, hoping it might cheer up your afternoon! Make art and bring in a colorful dose of joy during the dead of winter by using your snow to watercolor.

Follow the instructions on Sarah’s tutorial for the step by step process to turn this week’s storm into a lasting work of art! This would also be an easy and fun activity for a winter kid’s party.

Photography and concept by imagine childhood. You should know, they also have a very pretty kids shop!
