    Vintage Crate- tutorial

08.24.10 Posted in decor, design, fall, parties, showers by Victoria

Inspired by Anthropologies fall look book, I am finding boxed up vintage crates to be the most lovely of pieces.

(Product photos from the fall catalog)

I made a few from re-purposed wooden crates for an engagement party & they looked perfect overflowing with apples. An easy project that will add a touch of handcrafted warmth to any celebration you have this fall.

    The Materials:

One re-purposed wooden crate, one yard quilted backed fabric, scissors, measuring tape, fabric glue & embellishments (ribbons & buttons).

    The Process:

    • Measure out each side of your wooden box and cut fabric to match, leaving all ends raw.
    • Beginning with the back side glue each piece of fabric to the box, allow the sides to overlap.
    • Hold down the fabric to set glue ensuring the entire box is covered with fabric.
    • Trim the outside fabric giving your box about 1/2 an inch raw overhang.

    • Using ribbon, thread & buttons embellish the crate by glueing bunches in random fashion around the inside of the box.

Ready to be filled with fall goodies for a party or packed up for a very fashion forward move!

    blessings.
