100 balloons in the sky

A fun benefit to living in a smaller city is the amount of festivals we have. There has been something special going on in Reno almost every weekend since we arrived this summer. This weekend we joined in the celebration and woke up while it was still very dark to attend the dawn patrol at the Great Reno Balloon Race. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

We bundled up and sat close enough to feel the warmth from the balloon fire. My daughter was mesmerized. Have you seen a hot air balloon up close? They are huge and beautiful.

After the before dawn glow show, they launched 100 of these giant balloons into the air. The sky over our city was filled with them. It was magical.

All photos taken by my friend, Chris Heifner who also happens to play really great music.

blessings.

  1. Beautiful. There is just something gorgeous about a hot air balloon floating in the sky. We have a big balloon festival over the July 4th holiday near me in Battle Creek Michigan. Sometimes they stray this way and when I am lucky enough to catch one (or 2 or 3) flying over one of the many lakes in the area it takes my breath away.

  2. oooo, i love the balloons in reno! we were there the week before (bbq) and will be there this week (air races), but have somehow lacked the desire to drive up for the balloons since our son was born. love the pics! and great work getting your feed going :)
