Thanksgiving

Painted pine cone table runner

Inspired by bottle brush trees in gorgeous holiday hues, I asked my friend Sam to update the idea using pine cones for a November feast. The look is so pretty and is a perfect way to bridge the color and festivity gap of this coming month. Spread along a table, the pine cones are a gorgeous way to center a Friendsgiving brunch or Thanksgiving feast. A bright dose of holiday color sounds like exactly what our fall feasts need this year.

After the feasts of this month are through, the pine cones will work just as great on a mantel, surrounded by a snowy holiday scene.

To make the painted pine cones you will need:

  • Pine cones in various sizes
  • Spray paint
  • Gold acrylic paint
  • Small paintbrush
  • Round wooden platforms (found at the craft store)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Hot glue gun
  • Drill
  • 1/32″ drill bit

1. Using the spray paint, paint the pine cones different colors.

2. While the pine cones are drying, paint the round platforms and wooden skewers with the gold acrylic paint. Leave to dry.

3. When the round platforms are dry, drill a hole through the middle using a drill bit slightly smaller than the diameter of your wooden skewers. Mine was 1/32″. Cut the skewers down to various sizes to make a variety of heights in your pine cone trees.

4. Place a drop of hot glue on one end of the skewer and put in the hole on the round platform. Put another drop of hot glue on the other end of the skewer and attach it to the bottom of a pine cone.

Spread the pine cones out across your table to create a pine cone table runner. This look is joyous and festive for feasting all season long.
