It’s kinda difficult to come by really pretty tablecloths, but making one at home can be an affordable and simple project. This colorful crochet doily tablecloth is a great way to fancy up a feast, or a gorgeous gift to hand a friend this holiday season. I love the infusion of bright and bold colors to this otherwise simple party decor.
To make the tablecloth, start by collecting doilies in different sizes and designs. Dye desired colors according to package’s instructions. Using machine wash Rit Dye, the process is as easy as doing laundry!
Arrange doilies along the bottom of a round or rectangular tablecloth with each doily’s center lined up with the hem of the tablecloth. Pin in place. Use a zigzag stitch to sew doilies onto the tablecloth. You can also use a fabric glue if you’re not handy with a sewing machine!
Sew/glue along the top edge of the doilies only. Once all of the doilies are sewn on, turn tablecloth over and snip away the fabric behind the doilies, stopping about 1/4” away from the stitches.
Project design and photography by Disney, from Ruffles and Stuff for A Subtle Revelry.

January 12, 2016 at 12:30 pmYou can crochet your own doilies. I’m doubtful about dyeing the doilies because I’ve never had much luck with dyes. Will the color run onto the tablecloth? Otherwise, this is a beautiful idea, I love it. I can also see a group of doilies sewn together for a curtain panel. Or make a tablecloth of all doilies.
