A Sweet Cotton Candy Cake

Inside: Pink cotton candy cake.

Everything is fun and games until your curtains end up stained! This cotton candy cake might look sweet, yummy, and innocent… But the creation of these photos is another story. A couple of weeks ago we created this festive cake to show off the concrete cake stand from our newest book. It was a tasty project that quickly got messy. I don’t blame the cake though. This cotton candy cake is a really fun way to update a birthday party and serve a little something sweet and new.

First a Little Story

A sweet little two-year-old happened to be on set the day we shot this and innocently locked the back door on us. It would have been complete panic if we didn’t burst out in laughter as she was grabbing cotton candy balls off the cake and devouring them. She would run to the door while we jumped and loudly gabbed on about unlocking the door, mimicking to her what to do.

She gave us the sweetest look and jetted back to the kitchen, only to emerge moments later double fisting cotton candy.

This went on for what seemed like 15 hours (although it may have only been minutes). Her face, hands, and mouth were covered in pink, sticky cotton candy bliss. It was one of the funniest moments I’ve ever had on set and goes to show how easy this cake is to serve & enjoy, no matter your age. ;)

Cotton Candy Cake

To make a similar cotton candy ball cake (which the kids love enough to binge on), use a Styrofoam cone triangle base.

Wash the base, allow it to dry, and cover it in pink icing. Before the icing sets take balls of cotton candy and roll them onto the base of the cake.

The frosting acts as a holding agent and the balls will stick right on! So fun.

Start at the bottom and work your way around the cake and up covering it as you go.

To serve the cake simply pull the cotton candy off for a birthday treat that may get a little messy, and everyone will love.

A Few More Cotton Candy Treats

We just can’t get enough of this cotton candy cake! So, we are thinking of all the different sweet ways we can incorporate cotton candy in our next party!
