Just in time for Cinco de Mayo – cupcake wrapper sombreros! Along with awesome guac and tasty drinks, these bright bursts of fun are just what your spring fiesta needs. The sombreros add a fun pop of color strung up as garland and can be used as drink stirrers as well. Or just toss a couple around the table, pour yourself a margarita and call it an awesome party day.

The cupcake wrapper sombreros are made using two different sized cupcake wrappers (we used both mini and regular sizes). Find wrappers in pretty spring colors and patterns or purchase plain ones and paint them yourself! We sprayed ours and the paint marks add a fun extra detail to the miniature hats.

Open up the larger cupcake wrapper and bend it outward and upward to make the brim, or poblano as it is traditionally called.

Then invert the miniature cupcake wrapper and glue it in the center.

DIY Sombrero Fiesta party

Place the miniature paper sombreros on bamboo skewers to make drink stirrers, glue them onto string to hang as garland, or even wrap around small boxes as festive fiesta favors. They will give your next outdoor party a whimsically colorful design boost.

Genius party tip! Place chips in a pitcher instead of a bowl and pour for germ free serving.

Every good fiesta needs a foolproof spread of food. To help guests mingle around your fiesta, set out small tables of appetizers and ice cold cans of Bud Light Lime-A-Rita. Guests will love how easy it is to grab food and drinks while they mingle. A few weeks ago I shared my new favorite guac recipe, RO*TEL’s Rockin’ Guac which is a great pairing for the Bud Light Lime-A-Ritas and an awesome start to any fiesta party.

Another great tip for serving outdoors with ease is to pour your chips into large pitchers instead of bowls. Leave out smaller plates and baskets for guests to pour the chips into and small baking cups make cute guacamole containers. It’s a trick we’ve been using for years to help guests serve themselves without having everyone’s germy hands continually in and out of the chip bowl.
