Festive Home 2024! The Project List

Since we purchased our home, we’ve been sharing a beginning of the year project plan here on the blog. This is the 3rd year we are doing it and it’s the year I think we will finally be able to check off that initial list we made when we moved into the house nearly 2 years ago. WHOOHOO!

You know.. the list I thought would take 6 months. Ha!

It has been fun to see this home come together and I can’t wait for the feeling of having all our major projects finally checked off the list.

Here is the initial list from 2016 and last year’s list 2017 if you want to see what we’ve been planning. You can find all our completed home projects over on the home tour page.

With most of the major floor and kitchen type renovations being done, this year we have a number of fun projects in the works. The last project we finished in 2017 was the master bedroom closet (inspiration here), which we will be sharing next week. Stay tuned! After a couple week break for the holidays, we are on to the next projects… Here’s what we are planning to accomplish this year and a little inspiration along the way.

The Master Bathroom, FINALLY!

We’ve started the master bath, if you’ve been following along on my Instagram Stories you will be well aware of both our plans & its current demolition state. We are hoping to finish this project in the next month and I can’t wait to FINALLY soak and relax in the bathtub of my dreams!

The Basement Rec Room

We shared a little glimpse into our guest room set up, but those photos show about 1/5 of the actual room. We have a gigantic downstairs room that we love for hosting guests, but most days it functions as the kid’s game room and we want to make the entire space into a more family friendly rec area.

Instead of majoring in guests and minoring in recreation, we plan to switch that on its head and create a space the entire family can enjoy.

The space will remain our guest room for out of town family and friends – so I’m envisioning Murphy beds with some sort of fold down game table. At the end of the day I want to include games, media, a crafting spot for the kids and a comfortable place for our guests to enjoy. It’s a lot to ask of one room, but I think this room is the space where it can happen!

Front of the house renovation – adding huge concrete stairs and a new front porch

The front of our house needs some major reworking and this is the year we plan to tackle it! Although our house sits high up on a hill, the front of our house has a major downslope happening from the street. Currently there is a hill of weeds leading up to our house and a couple paver steps someone stuck into the side of the hill to climb down. It is not safe and certainly not pretty. We’ve already started by removing a couple of the trees from the front to make way for a large concrete staircase flanked with garden beds.

As a part of this transformation, we currently have just one small slab as a front porch. We are planning on expanding that to create a tradition front porch situation with a larger entrance way.

A new front mudroom

These front of the house projects all kind of bled into one another to create a new front entrance experience. On the current concrete porch slab we have – I want to enclose it to build out a front mudroom.

Right now the entrance to our house doesn’t have great storage options for guests or all my kid’s crap. Gaining this extra 40 sq feet and creating a mud room that works for our family will transform our everyday organization immensely. I’m excited to play with texture and a fun wall treatment to make this space inviting.

The treehouse

This was on our list from the BEGINNING and we just never got around to it. This is the YEAR! We’ve already got the zip line up and now we just need the treehouse for creating a kid’s play place that everyone will love.

Master bedroom redesign with fireplace

We actually shared our master bedroom shortly after moving in. We put up this huge mural that I adore (it will be staying for sure!). The space we shared originally was a redesign, but not really a renovation at all.

Since we moved the closet/bathroom planning for the space, it made it so the entire bedroom footprint had to change. We are putting a lot of intention into the new design and hoping to end up with a much larger looking space, complete with a seating area, a small fireplace and tons of cozy texture to sink into.

Back deck build out

Here’s another project we did shortly after moving in to get it to a space that was “good enough”. I painted our top deck and it has served us well as a space to relax and unwind. However, it Hasn’t served what I initially was hoping it would being an extension of our dining room and an outdoor party space. We plan to enlarge the top deck and create an indoor/outdoor dining experience that we can use all summer long.

It should be a fun year of projects! Be sure to follow along over on our Instagram as I share weekly progress in real time. We are already getting to work this week, I’ll let you know how it goes. xoxo
