Inside: Surprise balloons and how to make balloon surprise box
Matt and I going away for our yearly anniversary trip this weekend. I’m a little sad to be leaving or new organic mattress behind. We like to celebrate marriage by sneaking away kid free for a weekend every year. We are headed back to Big Sur and Carmel this year which is one of our favorite places to go. I love how this blog has been following us for such a huge chunk of that time, there was a photo from 8 years in – we were babies! And a few wedding photos which I had to copy and scan in because we got married before the whole digital photo craze hit. Which dates me and makes our wedding feel like an entire world away. I honestly have a huge box of negatives from our wedding! What does one even do with those?
Since our wedding 13 years ago we’ve had the same queen bed – the entire time. Whenever we go away for a weekend I fall in love with whatever king sized bed we were staying in. It always felt like SO MUCH ROOM! With the recent move, we decided to upgrade our bed to a new organic mattress in a king!. We worked with our friends at Leesa to bring home our first king-sized bed. It makes me so happy I almost don’t want to go away… But the break from 66 amkid wake ups will still make the trip worth it. :)
Surprise Balloons
As a special anniversary surprise for Matt I had our bed all set up and tucked 13 reasons I love him into balloons for him to pop. It was fun to include one balloon for each year we’ve been married and a special thing about him that I love in each balloon.
The idea will work just as well with any number of balloons for anniversaries or milestone birthday parties. Laying the balloons out on the bed at home is a simple way to create a little excitement over something special. The balloons would also be awesome put in the car, on the floor, or put in the shower… We like stashing balloons in fun places! :)
It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but having the little love notes written on scraps of paper that you collect and presenting them in a balloon popping way is a fun idea for celebrating all the milestone events.
Organic Mattress Review
One of the first things we did after moving in was set up our new organic mattress king size bed. (And our balloon surprise box) You can see more about the pretty bed frame and our master bedroom right here.
The leesa mattress comes in a big box – it was quite crazy. I kept looking at the box thinking there can’t really be a mattress in there. I pulled the mattress out of the box, unwrapped it. It was quite surprised how easily it gained it’s natural shape. We’ve been sleeping on it for about a month now and so far it is the most comfortable mattress I could dream of and I feel so good that it’s made 100% organic.

The mattress even has a cute striped design so our bed can even look great even on laundry day! Having a king sized bed makes us feel so grown up and with the extra space. I’ve been sleeping so well next to that guy I call husband. I’m so excited for a weekend of sleeping in, balloon surprise box, and embarking on the next 13 years with him.
