We spent the majority of our vacation last week outside (specifically at the Beach and at Disney). It was a trip that left me dreaming of summer and long nights out on the deck… under lights. I always try to gussy up our porch this time of year and these folded paper light covers are a great way to do it affordably. They’re festive and fun for a party and the kind of strand I could see leaving up all season long.
The folded paper lights are bursting with color for summer. They can be resized to fit any bulb strand (I suggest an LED strand for safety). Can you imagine inviting friends over for early evening cocktails under these pretty colors? Summer bliss! The simple paper folds easily stand in for new/updated lights outdoors, or in. I am excited to hang a couple strands in the kitchen to brighten up a bland corner of the house.
To make the paper folded light strands you’ll need colorful scrapbook paper, scissors, and a bit of glue.
Start by printing out the paper light template, trace with pencil and cut out. Next, fold the paper back and forth, accordion style – here is a simple tutorial on how to make an accordion fold to get started. Once the paper has been folded, glue the two open sides together.
If using our template, the covers with be a bit smaller on one side and larger on the other – which makes them easy to slide onto standard globe light bulbs. Adjust the template for whatever size strand of lights you have on hand. Hang and enjoy!
Now that you’ve learned simplicity of according folding paper – here are a few other favorite paper folded projects to tackle.

How adorable for summer!
I can’t believe those are made out of paper. I had to look twice!
What a lovely idea! I loved your folded paper lights and the colours you’ve chosen. Great job!
Wow! Such a beautiful idea, I am going to try them out.
It would be nice if the template was available. I keep getting a “page not found” error, and a search of the site for “templates” is useless.
What a great idea? I’ts super one. I am going to try them out.
