Inside: We are showing you the cutest paper shamrock and how to make a paper fan DIY!
Saint Patrick’s Day has long been a beloved holiday to dress in green and enjoy a Guinness at our local Irish Pub. I’ve always enjoyed decorating with shamrock paper and adorning the color of the day. Since the twin’s have started preschool the holiday has become so much more! They have a leprechaun who visits their class and turns everything green (even their milk!) It was basically the best day of the school year for a 5-year-old.
To help with this year’s celebration, we created these fun shamrock paper fans. They are a fabulous way to gussy up the wall for the day, and they look great as bright green treat toppers. Giving each kid (or co-worker) A shamrock paper fan to open, close, and fan themselves with will definitely be a St. Patrick’s Day hit!
Shamrock Paper Fans DIY
The shamrock paper fans are so easy to make, the kids could even be involved in the process.
You will need:
- Two 12×12 pieces of green scrapbook paper for each shamrock
- 2 wooden sticks
- glue
- scissors
- A bit of ribbon to pretty up the ends
How to make a paper fan Shamrock
To make the shamrock paper fans:
Cut each piece of scrapbook paper into a long oval, then accordion fold the paper vertically (here is a photo tutorial on how to accordion fold paper).
Once the accordion folds are set – fold each paper in half, gluing the long ends together.
Repeat the process with another sheet of paper, and glue the two sheets together along the long end of one side. To finish off, glue the sticks onto both outside ends, and (optional) glue ribbon to the bottom. I prefer to use hot glue for this project as it dries super quick.
Gather a few different shades of green to end up with a field of shamrocks that will make any classroom or office feel Irish loving for the day!

I am having trouble cutting an oval. Do you have a template or suggestions. Really cute idea,
