Enjoy a fun little treat with this colorful, easy and tasty vanilla mug cake! Who says vanilla has to be boring? Let’s keep the great taste we love and create a rainbow of colors with it.
Making a vanilla mug cake is easy as 1-2-3 or in our case 3-2-1. With 3 tablespoons of cake mix, 2 tablespoons of water and just a minute in the microwave, you have yourself a warm and delicious piece of cake.
Adding color to a vanilla mug cake
Since we are all about making life more fun, we figure, why stop with just vanilla though?
Instead, we added a fun rainbow twist to this simple dessert. We packed a mug full of color and magic! You and the kids are sure to have a blast creating these colorful culinary creations.

Rainbow Vanilla mug cake
A vanilla mug cake recipe with a sprinkling of color and magic to sweeten up a winter's day.
- 1 box Angel Food Cake Mix
- 1 box Vanilla Cake Mix
- 1/4 cup Water
- 6 Mugs
Mix your Angel Food Cake mix together with your White Cake mix, make sure these are well mixed together.
Put 3 tablespoons of mixture into a small bowl.
Mix in 2 tablespoons of water.
Then begin coloring your cake mixture with desired rainbow colors. Evenly pour colors into a large mug.
Microwave for 3 minutes.
Add Whip cream and sprinkles!
If you don’t want the rainbows, try a plain vanilla mug cake
If you’re not in exactly a rainbow mood today (although, seriously… why???). Make the vanilla mug cake minus all the fun. Just follow the 3-2-1 rule we taught you above.
- Mix your Angel Food Cake mix together with any vanilla cake mix of your choice, make sure these are well mixed together.
- Put 3 tablespoons of mixture into mug
- Add 2 tablespoons of water into cake mix
- Microwave for 1 minute
Happy Rainbow baking in the microwave… which I assume will be done in your comfy’s with the fire on. Chilly weather is my favorite.
