If you are looking for an inexpensive way to get in on the pretty and simple urban trend for a party (or for your home) this summer, then concrete is a perfect solution. It is gorgeous when used correctly and is one of the cheapest materials to work with. A large bag of cement sells for about three dollars at your local hardware store and one bag could make an estimated 100 candles. For three dollars!
I made these simple candles only using cement, water and paper cups, see the full tutorial at Project Wedding. They would be amazing made in mass and placed on a mantel or around a deck this summer.
Just making sure people go looking for cement and not concrete at the store.
Jessica, thanks for the tip. I updated the post at the material section. I was stuck on my love for the finished product that I totally spaced that in bag form it is actually called cement:)
I love this cute idea, especially as a city dweller!
I even love them with the strips of floral showing–fabulous!
What a great idea! I definitely want to give this a try :)
you can use plaster of paris as well for a white version (I took a pic of some at Anthro as a possible Christmas idea for the glitter candles we made based on your painted/glitter candle diy).
Genius. Almost rustic looking, which I love.

I have square candles, which I love. This will work very well as holders!
So unique and wonderful. Thank you for sharing!
(somebody will dip ’em in chalkboard paint now)
