With summer well underway and the 4th of July coming soon – we are all fire pits and s’more making these days. And don’t get me wrong, I love a good s’more as well as the next gal. But after hearing the kids beg for them multiple nights this summer… the messy, chocolate all over everything, “I’m not going to ask you to stay back from the fire again”, dance is starting to make me wish for the days of cocoa to come back quick.
With the 4th BBQ on the horizon though, I’ve figured out a solution.
Instead of being the sucker mom melting in chocolate and coughing by the fire to serve s’mores, we are serving an EDWARDS® S’mores pie instead! I am not even joking… It is better than the real thing! It is a perfect mix of toasted marshmallow flavor, a rich chocolate center and graham cracker crunch. It is legitly my favorite version of s’more ever (and we’ve shared a lot of versions throughout the years).
Opting for this dessert will make our summer BBQ’s even better than imagined. The kids gush over how great the pie tastes and I can serve it up with a fork to keep everyone’s hands away from the gooey mess and us adults can enjoy the fire without the crazy fear that a kid is about to tumble in before our eyes.
With all the extra time on my hands since this treat is such an easy thing to serve, we whipped up a fire pit s’more cocktail for the grown ups to enjoy. To create the cocktail we took cues from the EDWARDS® Dessert and mixed 2 oz vodka with 1 cup blood orange soda in a glass with ice. Sprinkle toasted cracker around the rim of each glass and top with a toasted marshmallow. The tart blood orange makes this drink a wonderful pairing to enjoy with your own piece of s’more dessert pie.

Cheers to celebrating all the messy outdoor fun this summer and an encouragement to look for ways, (like say serving a dessert instead of s’mores) to make your gatherings more easy and fun for everyone. Because at the end of the day it’s who’s party is more relaxed and fun (and free of fire burns) that matters the most.
