Something about the fall makes it seem like our family is rushing around more than normal. Perhaps it’s the stark contrast to summer that makes the soccer practices, back to school nights, and busy afternoons seem extra crazy. Getting a fun and nutritious dinner on the table can be a struggle in the midst of the fall dash, but thankfully we have figured out how to color pasta!
They asked me to try one of their new sauces out and I added my own take with pretty colored pasta! The dinner was a festive and fun score to our weeknight routine and only took about 10 minutes to make. Plus, it is national pasta month – so celebrate in style without adding any extra time to your busy schedule.
How to make color pasta
To make the colored pasta you will need pasta, small plastic bags, and food coloring. Boil the pasta according to the package directions. While the pasta is cooking add 2 tablespoons water and 5-10 drops of food coloring in each bag – make as many bags of different colors as you’d like.
Drain the pasta and add to the plastic bags, squish around to coat entirely. The kids got a kick out of this easy weeknight treat and ate more of the chicken marsala dinner than usual. By making the mundane merry we created our own little celebration on a regular Tuesday night.
After dying the pasta I was excited to find out that I could also color on it. Using a food coloring pen I made hearts, polkadots, and stripes on some of the pasta pieces – what fun!
