Tips for Make Mini Pies

Although these mini cherry pies are SUPER EASY to make, there are a few tips we have learned through the years of making them.

Valentine Dessert Idea
  1. Using pre-made pie crust is such an easy alternative. They still taste great, and always seem to turn out better for us when we use the pre-made dough.
  2. Make sure you don’t overfill your pies. When you overfill the pies, the sweet goo seems to ooze out and burn your pies.
  3. Use a beaten egg and lightly rub around the edge of the bottom crust before placing the top crust on. This helps create a good seal for all your cherry goodness.
  4. Cut an “x” on the top of your pie to act as a vent. Again, this helps prevent your mini pies from busting open.

How to Make Mini Cherry Pies

Instructions to Make Mini Cherry Pies

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together cream cheese, 2 tbsp of sugar, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  3. Sprinkle a little bit of flour on your work surface and unroll your pie crust onto the flour.
  4. We used a rolling pin to make our dough smoother and a tad bit thinner.
  5. Using a cookie cutter, cut out as many pieces as you can. You can always keep squeezing together the scraps and re-rolling the dough to cut out more hearts.
  6. Place your first layer of dough onto your non-stick baking sheet.
  7. You can use a piping bag or spoon out the cream cheese mixture and cherry filling onto the bottom layer of dough. (Make sure to stay clear of the edges)
  8. Use your beaten egg to lightly coat the edge of the bottom layer of dough.
  9. Add the top dough layer and use your fingers or a fork to crimp the edged of the pies.
  10. Cut two slits in the top of each pie. This lets the steam out as they cook so they don’t burst.
  • You can add a drizzle of icing by simply mixing together powdered sugar, milk, and food coloring. Just mix together powdered sugar and milk until you reach the desired consistency.
